Dr. Daniel de Ruiz Garibay

Daniel Ruiz de Garibay, PhD (UAM), MPhil (Reading), MSc (Glasgow), GDip (LSE), BA (Deusto), is a Senior Lecturer at Asia Pacific University, Malaysia, where he teaches International Relations and Sustainability. He also leads the research cluster on Aligning Business with Sustainable Development Goals.

He has been based in Southeast Asia since 2012, serving as the Regional Coordinator for Asia-Pacific at the World Rural Forum, consulting for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, and working at UNESCO’s Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Sciences in Jakarta.

Dr. Ruiz de Garibay was a Blue Pioneers Fellow at the University of California Santa Cruz, USA, and assisted the UN OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship in Geneva, where he trained on Human Rights mechanisms and received special training on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

He is a member of the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan. He speaks fluent Spanish, Italian, and English, and converses in French, Bahasa Indonesia, and Basque.
